Pacific Aisles is PROUD to announce their feature in the February issue of Alaska Airline's magazine! We would like to send a big MAHALO to Jennifer Schaefer of Alaska Airlines Magazine for writing such an amazing article about destination weddings and featuring our company!!!

With destination weddings being such a popular trend amongst couples who want to have an intimate celebration, going to the islands is the best way to go! We offer full coordination services, helping brides plan their wedding from beginning to end, as well as day-of coordination services, which is perfect for those couples who want to plan their own wedding, but would like to have us around the day of their wedding to make sure everything runs very smoothly. We have worked with couples from all over the nation as well as couples abroad, including Australia, Japan, and Hong Kong.

As noted in the article said by our talented coordinator, Christina Farrow, she states: "With today's technology, backed by a song list of talented wedding professionals, planning a Hawaiian Island wedding from afar has never been easier" (55). She also adds that "good communication via phone calls, email and video -in addition to providing clients with photos, sketches, seating layouts and fabric swatches- allows her to keep couples up to date on details of the planning process" (56-7). Which is why we are so thankful to the biggest most convenient resource available to man-kind...the internet!

Also featured in the article is our bride-and-groom-to-be: Kristi Clement and Mike Lord from Anchorage, Alaska. We will be celebrating their wedding on May 21st at the Loulu Palm Estate in Hale'iwa, on O'ahu, and look forward to making their wedding dreams come to life! In the article, it mentions that Kristi had "expected organizing a wedding in Hawai'i from Alaska to be a challenge...however, working with a wedding planner has made for a smooth process" (57).

Off-Premise Events

We'd love to announce our participation in the Off-Premise Dining Club, hosted by Off-Menu Catering!

Off-Premise is a once-a-month intimate event for club members to enjoy a three to five course meal prepared by one of Oahu's finest chefs from restaurants all over the island. The event can be held at either the restaurant itself or at a popular venue location. For the month of March (March 12th to be exact), they will be hosting their social gathering at the Oceanfront Oasis featuring Chef Travis “Ala” Sutton of Le Guignol. Here's the menu for next month's gathering:

Cocktail Menu

Crab and dill canapé with golden caviar aïoli

First Course

Braised artichoke with a sherry gastrique, goatcheese and almonds

Curried quinoa, cucumber and mint salad with Ho farms tomato oil and lemon juice

Seafood

Chilled lobster cappuccino

Lightly grilled lobster tail with frisée lettuce, fresh tarragon and sauce maltese

Meat

Chicken fried veal cheek with truffle scented cream veloute and sauerkraut

Going traditional but non-traditional on Valentine's Day

February 14th is not only a day where people mark their calendars for love, but about 10% of all Americans mark that day as their "proposalversary" (proposal + anniversary = proposalversary) -and that's according to the 2006 Census Bureau. So not only are we finding out that they calculate that type of statistic, but hello, that WAS five years ago. Maybe that statistic has increased! Though the statistic of how many people get married on Valentine's Day is yet to be determined, we would like to extend some wedding ideas for a V-Day wedding.

If anyone were to ask you to wear Valentine's Day colors, or you were to go to the Valentine's Day gift section at your local grocery store, you'll see lots of red and pink. But what if you wanted your wedding to still represent a Valentine's Day theme without sticking to those colors alone? Here are a couple of ideas to make a traditional V-Day wedding seem non-traditional:

A chic black and white color palette (similar to the damask-like print above) with touches of light pink don't completely hint away your traditional reds and pinks.

"Tiffany blue," or maybe we can say Pacific Aisles blue, is a perfect alternative color for a Valentine’s Day theme wedding. This chic palette offers the same romantic vibe as red and pink, but will make your day stand out from the crowd.

Becky & Micah: Inspiration

While November is still eight months away, we are counting down the days until our return to the Big Island in celebration of Becky & Micah's 11/11/11 wedding at the Fairmont Orchid on the Kohala Coast. A little black, a little white, and a little punch of hot pink (mixed in with the bride's love for eye candy) will surely set the stage for one unforgettable night!

It's Officially the Year of the Rabbit!

Today marks the day of the Golden Rabbit in the Chinese New Year and ends next year on January 22nd. According to Chinese Astrology, the Rabbit is the year for negotiations and a time to focus on security, diplomacy, and most importantly, your relationships with other people -particularly your family. The Rabbit is the symbol of the Moon which in turn is the Yin (from the term Yin Yang) of heaven, which signifies magic!

Okay...let's break that one down: Rabbit=Moon=Yin of Heaven=Magic...OKAY...GOT IT! The year of the Rabbit is going to be magical!

People all over the world are celebrating the new year festivities by having lots of Chinese food (yum!), music, games, activities, and traditional shows -such as the famous lion dance. The dance is a traditional dance in Chinese culture, in which performers mimic lion-like movements in a lion costume. Legend has it that the lion dance was used to scare away evil spirits, but as hundreds of years have passed and new traditions are made, the lion dance can be seen in all kinds of celebrations -including weddings!

During a reception, couples like to entertain their guests during dinner by having some form of visual entertainment. Many Chinese couples (or those who are of Chinese descent) like to captivate their guests by having a lion dance to incorporate some of their culture and heritage into their weddings-which ultimately creates a magical event! But in all reality, people from other ethnic backgrounds like to have such performance as well!

As the new year kicks in (Since we're only in on the second month and it IS the Chinese new year today, does this still allow us to try and start on those new year's resolutions we made a month ago?) we'd love to wish you a big Kung Hee Fat Choy from Pacific Aisles! 2011 is already looking to be an AWESOME year, so let's make the most out of it!

Jana + Josh: Design + Details

Jana & Josh's August Wedding was one of our VERY favorite of the year, and we're so excited to finally share a sneak peak of their wedding day.

Jana & Josh planned their big day with us from their home away from home in San Francisco, California. They were both really excited to return home to the islands to tie the knot, and we were just as excited to be a part of their wedding.

We kicked off plans knowing that Jana had her heart set on a rustic affair, with a twist of modern, full of lovely little details that screamed color, and we couldn't think of a better way to do that then to infuse some of Jana's favorites from her very own custom designed collection of textile prints. We had so much fun working with Jana to narrow down the prints (and finding ways to use them in our overall event design), which featured island inspired motifs as well as block style prints of the family homes that would host the ceremony and reception. The day Jana's prints rolled out on fabric, we were anxiously counting down the days that we'd finally get to pull all of the elements together for one amazing day.

Hana + Edwin: Sneak Peak!

Well, it's been a while! A busy summer lead into a busy fall, that lead into a blissfully busy winter but we're excited for a nice break for the holidays, and even more excited to share with you what we've been up to the last six months!

Mandy + Dan: Lanikuhonua, Oahu

Congratulations to Mandy and Dan, who recently tied the knot on the island of Oahu. The ceremony was held at Waikiki's historical St. Augustine by-the-sea, known for it's sweeping stained glass windows and a well recognized feature on the Waikiki skyline.

Their island inspired reception followed oceanside at beautiful Lanikuhonua. Guests arrived to be greeted by family friends who offered vintage Hawaiian postcards for sentiments and well wishes for the newlyweds. After a laid back cocktail hour and a gorgeous sunset, guests made their way into the dining tent for a beautiful program and a wonderful island inspired dinner by Indigo Catering. Guests were also treated to a surprise hula by the bride, and then danced the night away on a dance floor under the stars.

I came across this beautiful black and white ceremony still from a wedding we planned for destination wedding couple, Julie and Vincent, as I was thumbing through location photos of the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai at Historic Ka'upulehu. We'll be returning here for a wedding in November and this photo made me realize how much I adore the Big Island, and how much i adore WEDDINGS on the Big Island!

Amy + Brian: Loulu Palm Estate

We were super excited when we received the call from Seattle couple, Amy King and Brian Wells, to plan their destination North Shore Oahu wedding. Not only because we hit it off right away and i could tell they would be a fun couple to work with, but because we had also planned Brian's brother's North Shore wedding and knew that this gang loved to have a good time. To top it off, we were even more excited to learn that several couples we had worked with in the past to plan their weddings, including Seattle couple Leigh and JP Canlis, would be attending this big event, babies in tow, and we were looking forward to seeing them all!

Most guests arrived on island a week before the wedding, and spent most of that time on the North Shore, soaking up the summer sunshine and enjoying the activities and laid back lifestyle that the North Shore is so well known for. While some guests stayed at nearby Turtle Bay Resort (the only hotel on the North Shore), many stayed in beachfront vacation rentals that were close to the wedding venue, Loulu Palm Estate.

The day of the wedding was just stunning; warm and sunny, blue sky for miles and a light breeze off the ocean set the tone for a perfect late afternoon ceremony. Guests kept cool under bright fuschia and bamboo parasols that complimented the bride's bright pink bouquet, designed by Koa Johnson of Flower Farm Hawaii. Bridesmaids wore J. Crew Cady dresses in marine blue and held light pink bouquets of cymbidium orchids, the Groom and Groomsmen wore white Tommy Bahama linen shirts adorned with traditional Hawaiian maile leis.

Amy and Brian's beautiful beachfront ceremony included a lei exchange to honor the parents, as well as personal vows that the bride and groom had written themselves, as Hawaiian trio, Puamana, entertained with family favorite songs.

After the ceremony, guests watched the sunset as they sipped refreshing cocktails from outdoor lounges, and later enjoyed an island inspired dinner menu and tropical wedding cake before hitting the dance floor and dancing the night away. What a fun night!

Jackie + Siggy: The Menu

Being the food lover that i am, i couldn't help but share the menu for Jackie and Siggy's wedding. Jackie and Siggy carefully selected each and every item on the menu to reflect their favorite foods, Donna Hay style (also a fellow Aussie).

They were torn between the formality of a plated meal and the relaxed atmosphere that food stations would provide, so we teamed up with Chef Peter Foster of Memoirs Hawaii and combined both styles of service to create just the right mood for this very special meal.

After a sunset cocktail hour with mouth watering butler passed canapes and an open bar, guests were seated for a short and sweet welcome and introduction of the newlyweds, who took to the dance floor for a fun and spirited (and cleverly choreographed) first dance to "You Should Be Dancing" by the Bee Gees.

Guests enjoyed gorgeously plated appetizer and salad courses, then were invited to explore food stations set around the perimeter of the dining marquee. Each food station offered a complete dinner plate, but we watched guests request plates from every station, then return for seconds, even thirds!

Happily full, guests took turns toasting the couple and their marriage, then spent the rest of the night on the dance floor working it all off!

Jackie + Siggy: Loulu Palm Estate

What started out as a beautiful destination wedding week of sunshine and warmth for this recent Spring wedding at Loulu Palm Estate on the North Shore turned into a cold and wet weekend and wedding day. But no amount of non-stop (and i mean non-stop) downpour was going to rain on this parade for Los Angeles based Australian couple, Jackie and Siggy.

Under parasols, guests enjoyed a barefoot in the sand beach ceremony looking out towards the sunset on the horizon, then moved up to the cocktail lounge overlooking the ocean for a festive cocktail hour of tropical drinks before heading into the reception tent for dinner and festivities.

Tropical cymbidium and mokara orchids, protea pincushions and ginger flowers in every bright shade of green, gold, and red graced guest dining tables. The clear top marquee canopy above reflected the color below with bright bold Chinese paper lanterns in the same hues. Green burlap envelopes with coconut clasps that was gifted to each guest held bars of locally hand produced natural soap from the North Shore Soap Factory in a variety of tropical ingredients, including pineapple, mango papaya, sugarcane and (our personal favorite) Kona coffee.

As in marriage, couples don't always have the pleasure of blue skies and sunshine to keep them warm. It was a beautiful thing to see to the newlyweds and their guests having the time of their lives regardless of what the weather had in store.

Ribbon Wands

We loved this excerpt from this article titled "Out with the OLD, In with the NEW" from Canada's WeddingBelles Magazine, which reminded me of these gorgeous and festive ribbon wands we custom designed to compliment the colorful palette for Carissa and Mike's Lanikuhonua wedding back in October. What a perfect way to get the party started!

THE CONFETTI TOSS

OLD: Rice, birdseed and confetti are messy; flower petals can stain; bubbles are sticky; and we once heard a horror story involving a can of bright pink Silly Spray and a snow-white wedding dress that ended up with an unintentional dye job. The verdict? Sprinkling things on newlyweds as they walk down the aisle just isn’t necessary. In fact, many venues (churches in particular) disallow this practice due to the mess it creates.

NEW: A great alternative is to have guests wave wedding wands (short sticks with ribbons tied to the end) as you take your first steps as husband and wife. They can be colour co-ordinated with your wedding theme, don’t require any cleanup, and create a stunning visual for photos. You can even customize them with your names and wedding date for your friends and family to take home as keepsakes.

Kristi + Mike: Inspiration

Kristi and Mike are a fun couple who we are so excited to be working with on their wedding next Spring. Kristi had contacted us from Alaska almost six months ago to inquire of our services. We hit it off immediately and knew this destination wedding would be so much fun, as we started to chat about some of the ideas they had for their wedding: beach front location, amazing food, flowing bar and of course, a live band that could keep guests dancing all night long.

After much back and forth, Kristi and Mike let me in on a little secret: while the wedding would happen, they weren't formally engaged. Yet...

So time went on and we lost touch with Krist and Mike. We'd check in from time to time to see how they were doing and still... no news. So... you could imagine the excitement when we recently received the much anticipated email that's subject line read: WE'RE ENGAGED!

Maui: Off the Beaten Path

We are always on the lookout for great articles on Hawaii Nei, so excited we were to open this month's Sunset Magazine and discover this insider's guide to an offbeat (and blissful, might we add!) week on the Valley Isle of Maui.

Enjoy this perfect 7-day itinerary!

Maui’s got all the essentials for the ultimate tropical vacation. Maui maven Paul Wood gives us the scoop on the authentic island jewels for your week in paradise.

Day 1: Check into a low-key inn

The authentic Old Wailuku Inn at Ulupono is in Wailuku town at the mouth of ‘Iao Valley, on the north side. The setting is serene, the rooms—with their high ceilings and beds spread with handsome Hawaiian quilts—blissfully tropical. And Kihei beaches are 20 minutes away.

Day 2: Go to snorkel school

Instead of aimless snorkeling, get smart as you swim. Reef expert and dive master Suzzy Robinson works with small groups (of six or fewer) for Maui Snorkel Tours; she picks that day’s best shoreline site and then provides plenty of unhurried instruction. Robinson is great with insecure or rookie snorkelers. And she knows absolutely everything about every fish you’ll meet—such as the cleaner wrasse, which serves as a personal groomer to other fish, sort of like a piscine day spa.

Day 3: Discover small-town charm

On the North Shore, once-poky Pa‘ia is turning old storefronts into boutiques and restaurants. At Green Banana Café, try Papa Wong’s Famous Banana Pudding. Or hit a hangout of pro surfer Laird Hamilton, Anthony’s Coffee Company (above, its veggie Benedict). Art shoppers will be wowed by locally made ceramics at the Maui Crafts Guild.

Day 4: Enjoy America's most beautiful road, the right way

The 52-mile drive (with 54 one-lane bridges) from Kahului to Hana is one of the world’s great road trips: views of dense tropical jungles, ocean, cliffs, and at the end, a Hawaiian village lost in time. So don’t try to rush things. Leave early, drive slow, pick up mangos and papaya at fruit stands like the Huelo Lookout, and get out of your car to encounter some Hawaiian prehistory at the stone ruins at Kahanu Garden. If you decide to make it an overnight (a good idea), Hana has two good splurge lodging choices: posh Hotel Hana-Maui and the Japanese-style Heavenly Hana Inn. For midpriced studios and condos, try Hana Kai Maui. And there’s one more find, an hour past Hana: Waimoku Falls in Haleakala National Park. It’s Maui’s most beautiful waterfall, for sure.

Day 5 (A.M.): Explore the oddball crater

Ranger-led morning hikes often travel through volcanic landscapes up to the summit of the 10,000-foot volcano in Haleakala National Park; on a self-guided tour through the Hosmer Grove forest, you could spot an ‘i‘wi, a rare Hawaiian bird. Or spend a whole day hiking the Sliding Sands Trail (above) through the eerily lovely crater itself, immersed in a wilderness of volcanic cinder, strange plants, and tumbling clouds.

Day 5 (Noon): Eat crazy good lunch for cheap

The plate lunch, which has its roots in Hawaii’s plantation days in the 1880s, is an economical and gut-filling choice. It includes an entrée, like teriyaki chicken or steak, served—usually in Styrofoam—with a scoop of rice and a scoop of macaroni salad. Ask any local for his or her favorite joint—everybody has one. One consistent star is Honokowai Okazuya Deli in Lahaina. You can’t go wrong with one of its lunches featuring ono or mahimahi with lemon-caper sauce.

Day 6: Gallop like a paniolo (Hawaiian cowboy)

When Maui locals Jerry and Toni Thompson sold their spread to Oprah Winfrey some years back, they simply moved higher up on Haleakala and started anew, with Thompson Ranch Riding Stables. Maui’s paniolo cowboy culture is rich, and spending time in the saddle with the Thompsons will introduce you to it. The ride will also show you the rural Maui most visitors never see—phenomenally beautiful, with views that extend across half the island.

Day 7 (A.M.): Check out the real Hawaiian beach

The long stretch of clean sand that is D.T. Fleming Beach Park has good snorkeling around the rocky edges. And there are features like lifeguards, tables, and grills, which you won’t find at the resorts.

Day 7 (P.M.): Eat well and be entertained

On the beach in Lahaina, the five-course, three-hour Feast at Lele is no standard luau. It doles out food from all over the South Pacific, like breadfruit with taro leaf in coconut cream from Samoa and Maori-style fish cake with shrimp, scallops, and seasonal fish. Music and dance—hula from Hawaii, a Maori war dance—are paired with each course, and are equally inspiring.

Hana + Edwin: Engaged!

We've been a long time fan of Orange County wedding photographer Jessica Claire, so naturally, we were GIDDY with excitement when wedding couple, Hana and Edwin, decided Jessica would be THE ONE to capture their wedding day on camera.

Charmayne + Nick: The Menu

It's no doubt that one of our favorite parts of the planning process is working with some of the islands best chefs to create custom menus for our couples (well, actually, our favorite part is TASTING these menus!) We've seen so many amazing menu proposals come across our desks that how could we not share with you some of these great custom menus that we've created with some of our couples. And after all, food IS a big part of the wedding day!

Charmayne + Nick: Loulu Palm Estate

What an amazing time I had planning this beautiful wedding for England based couple, Charmayne Woo & Nick Wright who tied the knot ocean side earlier this month on Oahu's stunning North Shore. While ninety percent of our destination wedding couples don't make it out to the islands for planning trips before the wedding, Charmayne and Nick were fortunate to visit us twice (yes twice! AND all the way from England!) before the wedding to select their perfect venue, meet their favored vendors and enjoy tastings with the best cake bakers and caterers on island. And what a treat it was!

After a whirlwind, circle island tour of Oahu and our most popular wedding venues (and a mandatory stop at Kahuku's Giovanni's Shrimp Truck), they picked none other then the Loulu Palm Estate for it's stunning ocean and sunset views and of course, it's gorgeous wide open lawn that would provide the perfect clean palette for our team to design their big day.

Charmayne and Nick hoped for an intimate and elegant evening that focused on good friends, good food and good times. Armed with a folder full of inspirational design images and a clean and modern palette of white, ivory and tiffany blue with touches of yellow, reminiscent of Charmayne's love for Tiffany's and the frangipane (plumeria) bloom, Yvonne Chapman of Yvonne Floral Design designed the most gorgeous bouquets and floral touches.

Naval Special Warfare Foundation Fundraiser: Inspiraton

A few years ago, my hubby (corporate event strategist at Sterling-Jones) and i were honored to work with the Naval Special Warfare Foundation for the first time to produce their first ever Pearl Harbor fundraising event on the USS (Battleship) Missouri. The event was well attended and deemed a huge success. This year, the fundraiser will take place on 9/11, and we are looking forward to kicking it up a notch for what has now become an annual event!

The Foundation was created to support, among many things, Navy Seals wounded in the field, and to support the families of those Navy Seals who have died in service for our country. This fundraiser, even though seeking to do GOOD and raise funds and awareness, will reflect on the great work that Navy Seals do on a daily basis, but will also be heavy hearted because of the fact of why the Foundation exists. It's our hope that our design will not only be visually stunning, but create a sense of peace and hope to the event, and honor those that the Foundation was created for.

We'll be working with floral designer, Michelle Maeda, of Flowergirls Hawaii, to take our design inspiration below, and design the perfect finishing touches for this event!

Sheila + Eddie: Paliku at Kualoa Ranch

Congratulations to newlyweds, Sheila and Eddie, who tied the knot earlier this week at Kualoa Ranch's Paliku Gardens, overlooking windward Oahu's picturesque coastline and famous Oahu landmark, Mokoli'i Island, aka Chinaman's Hat. What a beautiful wedding celebration under the stars, complete with a cocktail style party set up, delicious food stations, Coco Puff dessert bar, flowing bar, great music, outdoor dance floor and comfy lounge spaces for guests to enjoy the night.

We had ACTUALLY planned the wedding for a different oceanfront Windward location, but due to unforeseen construction delays (no running water? no landscaping? Eeeek!), we found ourselves scrambling to FIND a location that was available for this popular Saturday date and THEN move our plans to the new venue the week before the wedding.

This wasn't the first time we've dealt with last minute venue changes due to unforeseeable circumstances, and we've learned from the past that with an all star line up of amazing and experienced vendors, last minute hiccups like these are rarely a challenge. The transition to the new location was smooth, and the wedding went off without a hitch!

Carissa + Mike: The Music

Well i couldn't help but share a little about the music that inspired Carissa and Mike's wedding day! After all, what is a vintage Hawaiian inspired fete without vintage Hawaiian music?

Carissa created an amazing playlist of vintage tunes (think Hawaiian steel guitar and ukulele, straight out of a Kerne Erickson painting) that guests enjoyed throughout the evening. Carissa + Mike: Lanikuhonua

When San Diego bride, Carissa, reached out to us to help her plan her destination Hawaii wedding, one of the first things she mentioned was how much she loved our website, ESPECIALLY because it was BLUE. Little did we know how important COLOR would be to this wedding, but after a few meetings, it became VERY apparent that "bright" and "bold" and "colorful" would be the buzz words that would inspire the design for Carissa and Mike's intimate celebration. This would be no ordinary wedding!

Carissa already had her wedding dress picked out (a gorgeous, flowing, COBALT BLUE Amsale) and she knew that she would ask guests to wear WHITE, creating the perfect palette for bright, bold and colorful design. From there, we set out to create our own version of Disneyland's Enchanted Tiki Room (Disneyland is where Carissa and Mike got engaged!), oceanside at Lanikuhonua on the island of Oahu.

Wooden Monkeypod Chargers dressed up the vintage Hawaiian inspired tabletop, complete with pineapple vases filled with fresh island tropicals, including colorful hibiscus, ginger and monstera. Vintage style hula nodders, that guests took home as favors, were a hit. They completed their intimate tiki lounge look with oversized wooden vases filled with lush tropical flowers and foliage, and illuminated Buri Lanterns, that lit up the night and set a perfect mood for a vintage inspired celebration in paradise!

Carissa and Mike... What can i say?! I enjoyed every minute, and i mean EVERY minute of this fun and crazy planning process with you. I'm so thrilled to now call you my friends, and with our shared love (obsession more like) of poke, malasadas and all things vintage Hawaiian, i feel like we're practically family!

Inspiring The Menu

Wedding menu inspiration can come from anywhere: The meal a couple had on their very first date, a Bride's favorite dessert or a Groom's special family recipe. My favorite wedding menus are the menus that have taken shape from inspiration drawn from a couple's personal treasures that hold some sort of meaning to them, that reflect on their lives, the people in them, and their experiences that has brought them to their wedding day.

No place on the island has inspired wedding menus for our couples more then the infamous roadside shrimp trucks of our island's North Shore. After all, no trip to the North Shore (or Oahu, for that matter!) is complete without a pit stop at one of the unassuming but knock your socks off delicious plate lunch joints dotting the highway just past Turtle Bay.

So... headed to the North Shore with Pacific Aisles destination wedding couple, Charmayne & Nick, to check out prospective wedding venues (Loulu Palm and Turtle Bay's Keiki Beach), how could we pass up stopping for lunch at Giovanni's, the last stop for yummy garlic shrimp plates before hitting Kahuku town. The first bite of garlic and butter drenched shrimp had us all in heaven. The second bite had us all convinced that no menu for a wedding on the North Shore of Oahu would be complete without shrimp inspired by this North Shore delicacy. And with that, inspiration was found!

Betty + Kent: Puakea Ranch, Big Island

What more can we say about Betty Lee and Kent Kurihara's Big Island Wedding, except that it was an AMAZING day. It was such a joy working with Betty and exciting to see the creative genius of her design background approach every detail, and we mean EVERY DETAIL, that she worked so hard on in the months before the wedding.

It was even more fun to open and discover the contents of all 23 (and counting) boxes that were shipped from Oahu to the Big Island, filled with details and surprises that we had the pleasure of decorating with for the Big Day.While we have yet to see all the wedding photos from Betty and Kent's day, we're excited to share a fun preview and a little about what fun Betty and Kent had planned for 60 or so of their closest family and friends and the beautiful and very remote Puakea Ranch!

The shoes... ah yes, the shoes. Betty's love for beautiful shoes made me realize it's time i update my shoe wardrobe. Seriously! And i love that Betty's shoes (ALL of them - or at least all of them that could fit in her suitcase) garnered their own mini photo shoot (check it out here!) with New York photographer Punam Bean in the cottage as Betty and the girls got ready for the ceremony at hand.

The ladies relaxed as they got their hair and makeup done at the ranch's adorable Miles Away Cottage...

...meanwhile, up at Yoshi's House, the wheels were set in motion and last minute touches were placed as guests arrived and a smiling groom (in cowboy boots!) awaited patiently near the KISSING TREE for 4pm (and his bride!) to arrive.

While it was important to Betty & Kent that their guests feel comfy and "at home" at the Ranch, it was also important that a bit of their own style and personalities infused into their wedding equaled fun and unexpected touches at every turn. Guests helped themselves to Betty & Kent's favorite ice cold IZZE sparkling juices and limited edition designer bottled water by Christian Lacroix for Evian. Batten Lace Parasols kept guests cool in the warm Hawaiian sun, and pashminas offered cozy warmth for later in the night, when upcountry Big Island's temperatures tend to dip towards chilly.

Flowergirls dressed in adorable white cotton eyelet dresses walked ringbearer, Kea (Betty & Kent's beloved pooch), down the aisle and to their awaited seat on the tree swing as they turned their attention to the bride, dressed in Monique Lhuillier couture, and her father as they made their way to the 1001 strung crane adorned monkeypod tree.

With the ceremony short and sweet, guests tossed dried lavender, a symbol of devotion and longevity, in celebration as the bride and groom kissed and were announced as the new, Mr. and Mrs. Kent & Betty Kurihara!

While the newlyweds were whisked away for photos, guests were invited to take their own self portraits at the informal photo booth that was set under the KISSING TREE, complete with props that ranged from masks to funky sunglasses to mustaches and fun hats.

And... as the sun began to set, Betty ducked into the cottage for a dress change into a stunning Pronovias Gown, and festivities continued in the reception tent to the bride and groom's favorite jazz playlist as guests dined and toasted well wishes for the newlyweds, amidst tables draped in specialty lavender, ivory and chocolate linens and set with manzanita style candelabras that held tea light candles and mini birds nests. Each place setting was set with home made fabric flower pins (for the men) and fabric wristlets (for the ladies) that held each guest's name printed on fabric scraps, and a menu that Betty had printed on paper lunch sacks.

Lacey details, strings of pearls and vintage style ribbons held table cards to chairs, and home made garlands made from cupcake liners in whimsical colors and patterns to compliment Betty's vintage modern theme adorned chair backs and tent poles to add touches of whimsy to the celebration. A large vintage bird cage chandelier created by the groom, hung over the bar.

After dinner and cake, Betty and Kent topped the night off with a game of pinata (an adorable creation by the Bride herself) filled with surprises for the guests (to scoop up and fill their paper sack menus with) and a warm bonfire to gather around and enjoy home made s'mores.

Tanisha + Jesse: Sneak Peak

Danielle + Arash: Lanikuhonua, Oahu

It's amazing sometimes, what brings couples together, especially when they reside in different cities, on opposite sides of the continent. That was the case for Danielle and Arash, both waiting for a delayed flight that would unexpectedly have them chatting to pass the time away. When their flight was finally ready to board, it was a sure sign when Danielle gave up her First Class seat to sit with Arash, who was traveling in Coach, to continue the conversation they had started hours before... and the rest is history!

So it would only seem fitting that these two would jump on a plane and fly to the Hawaiian Islands for an intimate celebration. Their request list was simple and read:

Hayley + Ben: The Menu

While typically a wine and beverage menu pairing would follow a well laid out menu, for this destination Lanai wedding couple, the wine and beverages that would be served as their guests dined alfresco were equally important. So... the menu, with each course's perfect pairings, had to be designed hand in hand.

To create the perfect 9-course tasting menu, reminiscent of Hayley and Ben's all time favorite Chicago Restaurant, Charlie Trotter's, we first teamed up with local wine expert, Alan Jahns, to create a wine and beverage profile for the couple to help create a menu that would well suit their tastes. Once the menu was established, we set to work pairing the perfect champagnes, sake and wine for guests to enjoy with each and every course served. And what resulted was an amazing epicurean experience for the newlyweds and their guests for this intimate wedding at the Four Seasons Resort Lanai at Manele Bay.

The Hawaii Statehood Stamp

We can hardly wait for the US Postal Service to release the much anticipated 2009 Hawaii Statehood Stamp, which is slated to be available for purchase SOMETIME this summer. In fact, it seems that ALL of our destination Hawaii brides tying the knot towards the tail end of 2009 are clamoring for this bit of history.

What a perfect way to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the 50th State, AND send off those fun Save The Dates or Wedding Invitations, SWAK!

Uncommon Envelope

Yes, blog posts these days for Pacific Aisles have been few and far between, but we are so excited to be soooo busy with all the wonderful couples we're blessed to be working with!

BUT we just had to find the time to share recent BIG news from our uncommon friends over at Uncommon Envelope. This Seattle based boutique stationery design firm recently relaunched their and improved website and blog, AND announced the opening of their etsy shop featuring uncommonly exhilarating everyday stationery.

We not only LOVE their newest retail designs, (their HELLO Collection is a fave!) we LOVE that they are eco-friendly, using 100% cotton tree-free paper, soy based inks, man-powered letterpress printing and biodegradable packaging.

Maggie has always served as an amazing source of design inspiration for our weddings, and is a dream to work with when it comes to designing details that will no doubt enhance any event. Her gorgeous custom wedding stationery designs can be seen threaded throughout the real weddings featured on our website!

Celeste + Alfonso: Moana Mele, Kauai

I love that i'm finding myself on the gorgeous island of Kauai for more and more weddings these days, as it seems by the time i finally unpack all supplies i'm checking off my packing list to prep for yet another Kauai wedding!

We were honored to help Los Angeles couple Celeste and Alfonso plan their Kauai nuptials this past August, with a small ceremony at Saint Sylvestor's Catholic Church in Kilauea, and a simple and intimate reception nearby at yet another gorgeous North Shore private estate on a bluff overlooking the ocean.

A tent was set with glowing white paper lanterns and four simple but stunning candle lit tables, which wrapped the dance floor to create a cozy and intimate setting. Dynamic design duo Casey and Dode of Martin Roberts Design did a fabulous job tying in Celeste's love for modern/clean design, her passion for Cymbidium, Phalaenopsis and Mokara orchids, and our color palette of clean whites with splashes of amethyst and lilac. Celeste's bouquet was drop dead stunning!

Besides flawless execution for every moment of the day from behind the scenes, my biggest task for this mellow crowd was to make sure that everyone had a margarita in hand (or the groom's favorite POG garnished with pineapple AND can't forget the cocktail umbrella) and that everyone, and i mean EVERYONE, got on the dance floor. Thanks to the talented DJ Mike of Kustom Sounds Kauai, the mission was easily accomplished!

Brandy + Ali: Sneak Peak

We've planned enough weddings on Kauai's North Shore to know that a night like this is a true blessing. After two days of set up in the rain and cold, the skies cleared and the moon came out for quite a dramatic end to a lovely evening for newlyweds Brandy and Ali Davoudian.

And after this past weekend's wet and rainy weather, it was one of those perfect nights as a coordinator you always dream of!

Brandy and Ali will soon be heading off to an amazing honeymoon in the Maldives.
